A brave seal chased away a bald eagle that had its eye on her newborn. The dramatic moment was captured by Jo Leach, 63, at Alsea Bay, in Waldport, Oregon, recently. In the footage, the eagle can be seen just feet away from the pup before deciding to creep closer and closer. Suddenly, noticing the predator, the mother seal, who initially had her back turn, started charging at the eagle – not once but twice. This motion caused the eagle to fly a safe distance away, allowing the mother to stand her ground. Jo initially spent 30 minutes observing the eagles and seal pups resting in the sandbar, and it wasn't until she began walking home that the moment played out. Having seen the eagle fly toward the seals, Jo headed back with her camera in-hand. Jo, from Tidewater, Oregon, captured the moment on May 9.
